Usain Bolt vs. 116 years of Olympic sprinters | The Verge

Usain Bolt vs. 116 years of Olympic sprinters

Usain Bolt New York Times visualization

The New York Times has published an incredible series of visualizations, using 3D models to compare today's top sprinters, swimmers, and long jumpers with athletes from every Olympic Games since 1896. The standout is a video analyzing Usain Bolt's blistering 9.63-second performance in the 100m dash last night, showing just how far ahead he is, not only of the current crop, but also of the top sprinters of yesteryear.

If Thomas Burke, gold medallist at the first modern Olympics in Athens, ran last night, he would have been more than 18m from the finish line as Bolt crossed it — he would even have been beaten by last-placed Asafa Powell, whose groin injury forced him to jog across the line in a disappointing 11.99 seconds. But it's not just top athletes who impress — according to data from the Amateur Athletic Association, the United States' fastest 16-year-old today could have won a bronze medal at the 1980 Games in Moscow.

Siri Tweak

Siri tweak for jb-ed iPhones is nice, but still not enough useful.

The first reason of unusefulness is that it can not do anything inside
the apps. Yes, it can open them now, but it takes keyboard or buttons
to insert anything. No hands-free.

The other thing is obvious - it does not understand "my English" very
well. It is not my native language, but then there should be a
language option "English(globish)" for the rest of the world, whose
native languages are not so paying and well spred to implement in iOS.

There is one usage Siri got much more usable for: to switch settings
on and off by speech.

I do not regret installing it and definately won't uninstall.
Remember, Activator from my yesterday's tweets...
This tweek gives a bit more without hanging or killing anything I had.
Thanks a lot!

VMware Fusion vs Parallels Desktop

In the latest Macworld there is an excellent article comparing thesa two applications.

And yes, Fusion won. Like I felt it, but for other reasons than mine.

I bought Parallels recently to make my Bootcamp accessible without rebooting.

Why Parallels and why I think I have made a mistake.

Places I have taken photos with iPhone 3G

Screen_shot_2011-12-20_at_22

Places I have taken photos by iPhone 3G. Since year 2007.
iPhone 3g is given away after getting 4S.
It is nice to remember me traveling for these years. Actually, not all places I have been to are on this map.
It is kind of strange that I have not taken any iPhone pictures while I have been in Hamburg an Duesseldorf ...twice. The trip Bristol- Newquay - LGW is not here - all southern UK should be marked. On the other hand, on the way to Newquay I was standing for hours in crowded trains and on the way to LGW I was driving. Maybe I did not take any pictures.
Considering I live in Latvia, it should have been covered much more than 5-6 pictures

Ideja: daļu soda izmaksāt ziņotājam

Iedvesmas avots:
